Services

In order to fulfil the purpose, vision, and goals of ZIAA, we have identified several key areas of focus. Our strategic plan, which was developed in consultation with the Zambian community, outlines the organisation's primary areas of emphasis. The following services are critical to the success of Zambians in Aotearoa and are also enshrined in the organisation’s constitution. Collectively, the following services form the foundation of our efforts to serve and support the Zambian community.

Youth and Community Engagement
  • Enhance youth and community engagement through various initiatives.

  • Identify and develop young leaders by promoting talent and providing opportunities for their growth.

  • Offer one-on-one mentoring to youth.

  • Conduct mentoring and other appropriate support to new Zambian arrivals in Aotearoa New Zealand.

  • Conduct workshops to teach youth various subjects and skills.

  • Enhance community engagement and foster cohesiveness, by increasing the number of registered members.

Cultural Development
  • Enhance cultural awareness and understanding for Zambians living in Aotearoa New  Zealand.

  • Foster a sense of personal and national identity among the community.

  • Promote unity and respect between people of different Zambian tribes living in Aotearoa New Zealand.

  • Encourage use of Zambian languages in the community.

  • Establish ‘safe spaces’ for individuals to seek assistance with cultural matters.

  • Participate in cultural events hosted by like-minded organisations in order to showcase and celebrate Zambian culture with others, and vice versa.

  • We regularly engage with the Zambian High Commision in Canberra to put in place a framework for Zambians living in Aotearoa New Zealand to obtain dual citizenship and renew Zambian passports.

  • Encourage mutual economic investments between Zambians living in New Zealand and those living in Zambia.

  • Facilitate the transfer of technological skills between Zambia and New Zealand.

  • Simplify travel for Zambians living in New Zealand between both countries by removing the need for additional documentation.

  • Advocate for better cooperation between Zambia and New Zealand, particularly regarding market access.

  • Enable Zambians in New Zealand to participate in Zambian elections

  • Enable Zambians in New Zealand to acquire land.

Health and Wellbeing
  • Promote mental and emotional wellbeing by collaborating with Zambians in the community who can offer counselling services.

  • Work with Zambians within the community who can offer counselling services.

  • Encourage physical wellbeing by creating exercise, walking, and hiking groups.

  • Foster spiritual wellbeing by partnering with religious leaders in the community.

  • Foster generational wealth by promoting financial stability and independence for all Zambians. 

  • Promote financial literacy among young people.

  • Conduct workshops to improve the financial skills of the community.

  • Encourage financial remittances among Zambians living in Aotearoa New Zealand as a form of development contribution to Zambia.

  • Encourage families to prepare for retirement by providing information and resources to help plan for their future financial security.

  • Encourage families to plan and prepare for the transfer and sharing of their wealth among heirs by offering workshops on how to write personal wills.

  • Build financial stability and independence for the Association.
