Purpose
Our purpose is to ultimately advance the welfare of our Zambians In Aotearoa Association (ZIAA) members. We do this by creating environments that factor connection, community and development. Through ZIAA, members are culturally connected, innovative, proactive and prospering in Aotearoa.
What we offer
Community

-
Assist new immigrants of Zambian descent to integrate into the ‘kiwi’ way of life.
-
Share and transfer positive traditions, cultures and values from generation to generation.
-
Reliable communication channel for the Zambian community.
-
Establish environments where Zambians can feel safe , refreshed and energised in a Zambian atmosphere.
Culture

-
Promote and maintain Zambian culture in the diaspora. This includes and is not limited to establishing relationships that promote traditional Zambian ceremonies (Likumbi Lya Mize, N'cwala, Mutomboko, Chakwela Makumbi, Ukusefya Pa Ng’wena, Kuomboka, etc.)
-
Foster connection and communication with other ethnic groups in Aotearoa. Such as by participating in Māori, Pasifika, African and other ethnic/cultural events of interest to the Association.
Mentorship

-
Mentoring and career progression for youth and children.
-
Provide an environment that encourages the development of leadership qualities among our youths.
Development

-
Support establishment of Zambian entrepreneurs. Such as encouraging ventures into real estate and similar initiatives.
-
Mobilise resources and secure funding for the Association’s approved programmes, activities and events.
-
Provide financial literacy to elders and youth
-
Contribute to the development needs of both countries, New Zealand and Zambia. A mentally healthy population will increase economic activity for New Zealand. On the other hand, no one will lead development activities for Zambia apart from her nationals.
Welfare

-
Assist with obtaining national registration cards (NRC) for children born in New Zealand, renewal of passports and obtaining dual citizenship.
-
Counselling for different circumstances (including mental health counselling from a cultural perspective). We understand that our community will have unique needs and we provide the resources to talk about specific issues affecting members’ welfare.
Become a member

The Association shall maintain the minimum number of Members required by the Act.25.
-
All Members of the Association will be subject to the Code of Conduct and Ethics as stipulated in section 45 of this Constitution.25.
