The concept of Ubuntu in the Southern African worldview teaches us that all people are interconnected, and that our humanity is defined by the relationships we have with others - "I am because we are". In the words of influential world leader Barack Obama, "we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by sharing ourselves with others, and caring for those around us." It is this profound understanding that drives my desire to serve the Zambian community in Aotearoa in my role as Vice Chairperson for the South Island.
