The Home of the Copper Queens
Hamilton (Māori: Kirikiriroa) located in the North Island of New Zealand, is about 120km away from Auckland. It is the fourth largest city in New Zealand and sits on the banks of the New Zealand's largest river - The Waikato River.
Hamilton City is part of the wider Hamilton Urban Area, which also encompasses the nearby towns of Ngāruawāhia, Te Awamutu and Cambridge. In 2020, Hamilton was awarded the title of most beautiful large city in New Zealand and is home to the internationally acclaimed Hamilton Gardens, amongst other attractions.
The area now covered by the city was originally the site of several Māori villages, including Kirikiriroa, from which the city takes its Māori name.
