The game was a thrilling roller-coaster ride for both teams and the fans. The Copper Queens were comfortably leading by 2 - 0 with only minutes to go before the end of the 90-minute game. They had scored two stunning goals in the first half and defended well in the second half. However, Germany did not give up and mounted a late comeback. They reduced the deficit with a goal in the 89th minute, and then secured an equaliser in the very last minute of the 10-minute stoppage time. The referee kept the game going for a few more minutes, even after 100min of football. Captain Barbara Banda and her team capitalised on it and scored one last goal to win the game for Zambia.

After their historic victory over Germany, the Copper Queens will arrive at Auckland International Airport on Monday 10 July 2023 at 9:50am on Flight EK448.
